SSPX response to Pope's offer expected in July

The Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) is not likely to provide a final answer to an offer of reconciliation made by Pope Benedict XVI until mid-July, according to a French journalist's report.
Jean-Marie Guénois of Le Figaro reports that Bishop Bernard Fellay, the superior general of the SSPX, has been asked to assent to some new requirements from the Vatican. At a meeting last week with Cardinal William Levada, the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Bishop Fellay received the Pope's response to the SSPX stance regarding a "doctrinal preamble" to a reconciliation. Apparently the Pope's response contained some new material that Bishop Fellay wishes to discuss with other SSPX leaders.
Bishop Fellay will bring up the Vatican's response at a meeting of the SSPX leadership that will be held in Écone, Switzerland, from July 7 to 14, Guénois reports. The traditionalist leader is then expected to provide an answer to the Holy See.
